PersianTaste About Us: A Family Story Told Through Food, Warmth and Tradition

In the heart of Potters Bar, there is a place where the scent of saffron, slow-cooked stews and freshly prepared herbs fills the air before a single dish reaches the table. PersianTaste is more than a restaurant. It is a family’s story, carried from Iran to Hertfordshire, and shared with every guest who walks through the door.

Opened in April 2023, PersianTaste was built on a simple but meaningful idea: to bring the rich flavours, generosity and warmth of Iranian hospitality to the local community. From the beginning, the aim was not only to serve food, but to create a calm and welcoming space where families, friends and neighbours could gather, relax and feel at home.

The roots of PersianTaste stretch across Iran itself, a country known for its vast landscapes, ancient culture and deeply varied cuisine. Iran’s food is not one single style; it changes from region to region, shaped by climate, history, farming traditions and family recipes passed down through generations. This diversity sits at the heart of the restaurant.

One side of the family brings the influence of Yazd, a historic city in central Iran. Known for its rich culture, desert architecture and distinctive culinary identity, Yazd carries a quiet elegance that can be felt in the restaurant’s approach: thoughtful, traditional and full of character.

The other side brings the flavours of northern Iran, a lush and green region famous for farming, fresh ingredients and some of the country’s most loved dishes. Northern Iranian cuisine is vibrant and fragrant, often shaped by herbs, vegetables, walnuts, garlic and deep, earthy flavours. By combining these two backgrounds, PersianTaste offers something both authentic and varied: a Persian dining experience that reflects the true breadth of Iran.

The journey to opening the restaurant was not simply about starting a business. It came from a feeling that something was missing. The family believed there was a genuine need for a proper Persian restaurant in North London and the wider Hertfordshire area — somewhere that respected tradition, served heartfelt homemade food and welcomed people of all ages. Like many family-run businesses, the early days required courage, patience and hard work. Opening a restaurant is never easy, especially when the ambition is to do things properly. Every detail matters: the recipes, the atmosphere, the service, the ingredients and the feeling guests take away with them. But those challenges became part of the restaurant’s identity. They strengthened the family’s commitment to building something sincere, personal and lasting.

At PersianTaste, food is prepared with care, inspired by traditional recipes and the kind of cooking usually found in Persian homes. It is food made to be shared, enjoyed slowly and remembered. Every dish carries a sense of place — from the central regions of Iran to the green north — and every meal is shaped by the family’s desire to offer guests the true taste of Persian home cooking.

What makes PersianTaste special is not only its cuisine, but its spirit. The restaurant has been created as a place of connection. It welcomes families with children, couples looking for a relaxed meal, friends meeting after work and local residents discovering Persian food for the first time. In a world that often feels rushed, PersianTaste offers something gentler: a space to pause, talk, share and enjoy.

The family’s role is central to everything. Their different backgrounds, experiences and traditions come together in the kitchen and in the dining room. Each person contributes to the restaurant’s character, whether through recipes, hospitality, service or the quiet attention that makes guests feel cared for. This multigenerational sense of family is what gives PersianTaste its warmth.

Today, PersianTaste stands proudly in Potters Bar as a family-owned restaurant with a clear purpose: to share authentic Persian flavours, honour Iranian heritage and create a welcoming home for the wider community. It is a place where tradition meets everyday life, where recipes carry memories, and where every guest is invited to experience not just a meal, but a piece of Persian culture.

For the family behind PersianTaste, the journey is still young. But the foundations are strong: heritage, hospitality, homemade food and community. And with every dish served, their story continues — one table, one gathering and one shared moment at a time.
